What HiveStyle is
HiveStyle is a browser-based styling tool operated by Hive-Secure. The service runs in two distinct modes: a free trial mode that uses the HiveStyle server gateway, and an optional Advanced direct-key mode that uses your own Google Gemini and OpenAI keys. The two modes handle data very differently — this notice describes both.
Free trial mode (default)
In free trial mode, HiveStyle operates a small application backend that acts as a gateway between your browser and the third-party AI providers. The following data passes through the HiveStyle server on every generation:
- The garment photo you upload (as a base64-encoded image)
- An optional second garment photo and an optional accessory photo
- Your selector preferences (gender, body size, height, vibe, budget, occasion, season, constraints, garment type, outfit count)
- The structured prompts HiveStyle builds from your inputs
The relevant content is forwarded to Google Gemini (for garment analysis) and to OpenAI (for outfit image generation). HiveStyle does not intentionally retain uploaded image content after the request completes.
Trial usage is tracked using an opaque browser/device fingerprint that is
generated locally in your browser and stored under hs_fingerprint.
Only the fingerprint is sent to the HiveStyle server. The raw browser
characteristics used to derive the fingerprint are not included in requests
to the HiveStyle server, but as with every website you visit, your IP
address, user-agent string, and request metadata are visible to the edge
network (Cloudflare) and to the HiveStyle server's hosting provider.
Server-side records may include the fingerprint, runs used, run limit, disabled status, first seen, and last seen. Operational and security logs (which may include IP addresses, user-agent strings, request paths, and HTTP status codes) may be retained for abuse prevention and troubleshooting. HiveStyle does not retain uploaded image content, generated images, the contents of your prompts, or your API keys in these logs.
Advanced direct-key mode
When both your Gemini and OpenAI keys are configured in the app, requests are
sent directly from your browser to Google and OpenAI. HiveStyle's application
backend is not involved in those requests. Your keys remain in your browser's
local storage (ob_gemini_key, ob_openai_key) and are
not intentionally sent to HiveStyle servers. You are responsible for the
security of your own keys and for the costs and quotas on your provider accounts.
Local browser storage
HiveStyle stores the following data in your browser's local storage and IndexedDB. None of it is sent to HiveStyle servers automatically:
- Optional API keys (
ob_gemini_key,ob_openai_key) — only in direct-key mode - Selector preferences (
ob_selectors) — gender, body size, height, vibe, budget, occasion, season, constraints, outfit count, skin tone, garment type - Local History (
ob_history,ob_history_index) — up to four recent sessions as compressed images - Usage statistics and in-app logs (
ob_lifetimeand friends) - The opaque device fingerprint (
hs_fingerprint) — used only in free trial mode - Theme preference (
ob_theme) and first-run onboarding flag (hs_onboarding_seen)
You can clear all local HiveStyle data using your browser's "Clear site data" function for hivestyle.hive-secure.com. The Recent Sessions panel exposes a "Clear all" button that clears only the outfit history.
Server-side records (free trial mode)
When you generate outfits in free trial mode, the HiveStyle server retains the following operational records:
- Trial usage records (fingerprint, runs used, run limit, disabled status, first seen, last seen)
- Waitlist submissions: when you add your email to the waitlist after the free trial is exhausted, the email address and a submission timestamp are stored. HiveStyle uses the email to notify you when the Pro plan launches and to coordinate access.
- Operational and security logs (request method, status, action label, timestamp)
HiveStyle does not retain uploaded image content, generated images, API keys, or the contents of your prompts beyond what is required to fulfil the request and respond to it.
Website analytics
HiveStyle uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand basic website usage, such as page views, referring sites, browser type, and approximate geographic region. HiveStyle does not use advertising cookies or behavioural advertising trackers. Cloudflare processes this information according to its own privacy terms.
Third-party providers
Generation in both modes involves sending content to one or both of the following providers:
- Google (Gemini) — Google Privacy Policy · Google Generative AI Terms
- OpenAI (image generation) — OpenAI Privacy Policy · OpenAI Services Agreement
- Cloudflare (website analytics and edge delivery) — Cloudflare Privacy Policy
Do not upload sensitive images
Do not photograph garments in a way that includes identifiable personal information — faces, documents, or other people. HiveStyle is designed for clothing photos only.
Children
HiveStyle is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
